​Safety first: On Manipur and a healing touch

Nemcha Kipgen, the first woman Deputy Chief Minister of Manipur, is calling for a peaceful resolution to the ongoing ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities. She emphasizes the need for safety and trust-building, particularly in areas where tensions are high. Ms. Kipgen, who hails from the Kuki-Zo community, has been stationed in Kangpokpi due to security concerns, hindering her ability to attend the Assembly session in Imphal. The violence, which began in May 2023, has resulted in over 250 deaths and thousands of displaced people. Ms. Kipgen urges all communities to recognize their shared heritage and future while respecting their distinct identities.
