The State government withdrew the contentious Tamil Nadu Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2025, which had reduced land requirements for establishing universities. The bill was passed last year amidst opposition from AIADMK and other parties. The government also withdrew the Tamil Nadu Private Universities (Amendment) Bill, 2023. Thangam Thennarasu, Minister for Finance, Environment and Climate Change presented the Final Supplementary Estimates for 2025-26 in the Assembly, which included additional funding for Pongal assistance and other social welfare programs.
