Stalin writes to Modi on registered Sri Lankan Tamils living in India
M.K. Stalin, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and the Union government are engaged in a dialogue regarding the welfare of Sri Lankan Tamils residing in Tamil Nadu. The Tamil Nadu Chief Minister requested the Union government to rescind administrative instructions that barred citizenship applications from this community, waive passport and visa requirements for certain individuals, delegate powers to district-level authorities for streamlined processing, and formally clarify the legal status of registered Sri Lankan Tamils sheltered in India until January 9, 2015. The Tamil Nadu government has provided significant support to these individuals for over four decades.
