The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) won a landslide victory in the parliamentary election, securing an overwhelming two-thirds majority. Tarique Rahman, leader of the BNP, and his coalition secured 209 seats, exceeding expectations and ending months of unrest that followed the 2024 uprising led by Gen Z. Shafiqur Rahman, head of the Islamist Jamaat-i-Islami, conceded defeat to the BNP, while the National Citizen Party (NCP) won only five seats. The election was Bangladesh's first truly competitive vote in years and saw a record number of candidates and parties vying for seats.
