Retired IB officer to lead peace talks with Naga, Kuki-Zo groups as MHA’s Northeast Adviser
Ajit Lal, a retired Indian Police Service officer, has been appointed as the Northeast Adviser to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. He will lead the Naga peace talks and continue dialogue with Kuki-Zo and Meitei insurgent groups in Manipur. Mr. Lal replaces A.K Mishra, who served in the same role since 2021. The appointment comes at a crucial time as the government seeks to address the ongoing Naga peace talks, the SoO pact with Kuki-Zo insurgents, and the ethnic violence in Manipur.
