Karnataka HC refuses anticipatory bail to MLA Byrathi Basavaraj in realtor murder case
An MLA accused of murder being denied bail raises concerns about justice.
The High Court of Karnataka denied anticipatory bail to BJP MLA B.A. Basavaraj in the murder of Shivaprakash alias Bikla Shiva, a realtor-cum-rowdy-sheeter. Justice S. Sunil Dutt Yadav dismissed the petition after rejecting Mr. Basavaraj's challenge to the FIR and his subsequent requests for anticipatory bail. The CID, which took over the investigation, invoked provisions of the Karnataka Control of Organised Crimes Act (KCOCA) against all accused persons, including Mr. Basavaraj, during the pendency of his petitions.
