Supreme Court requests Delhi HC to give Sengar appeal in custodial death case ‘out-of-turn’ hearing

The Supreme Court requested the Delhi High Court to expedite the hearing of an appeal filed by former BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar challenging his 10-year sentence for the custodial death of Unnao rape survivor's father. The High Court had previously refused to suspend Sengar's sentence, citing his existing life sentence for the rape of the victim's daughter. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant addressed the senior advocate representing Sengar, stating that the court would not intervene in the case as the High Court has scheduled it for final hearing on February 11th. The Supreme Court also suggested considering a separate petition filed by the dead man's family challenging the sentence.
