Yumnam Khemchand Singh | Crisis-time CM

Yumnam Khemchand Singh, a former MLA and martial arts expert, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Manipur on February 4th. The BJP chose him to lead the state after President's Rule was imposed following ethnic violence between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities since May 2023. The Home portfolio is with Cabinet Minister Govindas Konthoujam. Mr. Singh, who has been a vocal critic of former Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, aims to restore law and order in the state before the next elections in February 2027. His appointment was seen as a way for the central government to maintain control over critical governance issues.
