
Questions on caste for the Census will be notified before the second phase: Home Ministry to Parliament
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed that questions regarding caste will be included in the second phase of the 2027 Census. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai stated that several representations from different states, including Tamil Nadu, have been received regarding the enumeration of caste. The Government of India has notified the questions for the first phase of the census, which will be conducted in two phases. The second phase will begin in February 2027 and will focus on collecting demographic and socioeconomic information about each person.
