Mumbai set for high-stakes battle as campaigning for 29 civic body elections ends
Campaigning for the January 15 municipal elections in Maharashtra concluded with candidates from various political parties and independent contenders engaging in roadshows and door-to-door meetings. The most prestigious election is for the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), where the Baharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led Mahayuti faces a challenge from the Shiv Sena (UBT) led by Uddhav Thackeray and the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) led by Raj Thackeray. The elections also involve several other municipalities, including Thane, Nagpur, Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Nashik Municipal Corporation. The State Election Commission (SEC) announced that polls for 12 zila parishads and 125 panchayat samitis will be held on February 5th with counting scheduled for February 7th.
