Government disputes reports that it plans to ask phone makers to disclose source code

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) refuted media reports claiming it planned to require phone makers like Apple Inc. and Xiaomi to disclose their operating system source code, stating the consultation was routine and open-minded. The government emphasized its engagement with industry representatives to understand technical challenges and international best practices, assuring that all legitimate concerns would be examined. ICEA, a representative body for some smartphone manufacturers, stated that these requirements were not new and reflected standard transparency in consultations with stakeholders.
