Congress distances itself from Mamkootathil
Allegations of sexual assault against an elected official are a serious matter.
The Congress distanced itself from MLA Rahul Mamkootathil, who was arrested for sexual assault. The party expelled him long ago and stated that it is no longer responsible for his actions or decisions. While the CPI(M) has alleged political mileage from the arrest, the Congress maintains that they acted appropriately by expelling him and will not demand his resignation. The LDF, however, accuses the Congress of protecting Mamkootathil despite his expulsion.
