The Kerala Legislative Assembly is considering disqualifying Rahul Mamkootathil, a Palakkad MLA, ahead of the final Budget Session. Speaker A. N. Shamsheer cited legal and ethical concerns regarding accusations against Mamkootathil, stating that he cannot continue as an MLA under the Anti-Defection Law. The Assembly’s Privileges Committee will examine the matter, with preliminary legal opinions suggesting expulsion or voluntary withdrawal from party membership could be grounds for disqualification. T.K. Ramakrishnan of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) demanded Mamkootathil's resignation, while V.D. Satheesan, Leader of the Opposition, urged him to do so.
