Makrand Narwekar, younger brother of Rahul Narwekar, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker, is among the wealthiest candidates in the upcoming Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) election with declared assets of ₹124.4 crore. His assets have grown significantly since his last election in 2017, and he has purchased numerous agricultural land parcels in Alibaug. Narwekar, a BJP candidate for ward 226, faces opposition allegations of interfering in the nomination process. Tejal Pawar, an independent candidate contesting against him, claims she and her husband were pressured to withdraw from the race.
