Over 90% of Indian Candida auris isolates resist azole-based antifungals, study finds

Shivaprakash Rudramurthy of PGIMER, Chandigarh, and Sriram Varahan of CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology discuss rising fungal pathogens like Candida auris, which has a 30-40% mortality rate. Kaustuv Sanyal and Aswathy Narayanan from Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research found over 90% of Indian C. auris isolates resist azole-based antifungals. Their study in Nature Communications identified genetic mutations and the Eagle effect as resistance mechanisms.
