
NHRC demands action on Instagram ads linked to child abuse within two weeks
Child sexual abuse material is a serious crime and its normalization is alarming.
The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), led by Priyank Kanoongo, has taken cognizance of allegations that Instagram advertisements linked to Child Sexual Abuse Material were not adequately removed despite reports. The NHRC sought Action Taken Reports within two weeks from the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB), and Delhi Police, emphasizing examination under POCSO Act, 2012, IT Act, 2000, and intermediary framework. Additionally, the NHRC questioned Meta's role as an editor and publisher, seeking clarification from MIB on regulatory compliance.
