Parivar, party, and the quest for power
Raj Thackeray and Uddhav Thackeray, cousins and leaders of the Shiv Sena (UBT) and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS), respectively, announced an electoral alliance for the January 15 municipal corporation elections. The alliance is seen as a move to secure votes in Mumbai, Mumbai Metropolitan Region, and Nashik. The two cousins have a history marked by tension and political rivalry, but recently decided to put aside their differences for the sake of Maharashtra. Sanjay Raut, a Shiv Sena (UBT) leader, played a key role in bringing them back together. The alliance is expected to impact the political landscape of Maharashtra as both parties fight for the same vote bank.
