Chhattisgarh liquor 'scam': HC grants bail to former CM Bhupesh Baghel's son Chaitanya
Allegations of corruption against a former CM's son raise concerns about abuse of power.
The Chhattisgarh High Court granted bail to Chaitanya Baghel, son of former Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel, in two cases related to the alleged liquor scam. The ED arrested Chaitanya Baghel in July 2025 for money laundering and the ACB/EOW placed him under arrest in September 2025 for corruption. The ED alleges that the liquor scam, which took place between 2019 and 2022 while Bhupesh Baghel was in power, resulted in a massive loss to the state exchequer and benefited a liquor syndicate. The ACB/EOW claims Chaitanya Baghel received around ₹200-250 crore as his share of the proceeds from the scam.
