Former Delhi Minister Jain in Custody, Claims Cheaper Upgrade Over New Construction
Allegations of corruption and manipulation of a large tender raise serious concerns.
Satyendar Jain, former Delhi minister of the Aam Aadmi Party, told a court that he was in jail and not in charge when an Rs 1,546-crore tender was issued by the Jal Board in December 2022. He claimed upgrading existing sewage plants is cheaper and faster than new construction. The Anti-Corruption Branch alleged the tender was manipulated and published only online, not in newspapers. Jain and five others, including ex-Delhi Jal Board CEO Udit Prakash Rai, were sent to judicial custody. This evening, they were remanded in judicial custody with bail applications for most to be heard later.
