
Census 2027: Jairam Ramesh Criticizes Open-Field Method for Recording Caste
The Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India (RG&CCI) notified a set of 40 questions for the population enumeration phase of Census 2027, including new fields on spouse’s name, nationality, digital literacy, and caste details. The questionnaire went live in Ladakh and snow-bound areas of Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh on August 17, with door-to-door enumeration starting September 1 and concluding September 30. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh criticized the open-field method for recording caste as a way to sabotage the census.
