Satheesan, Chief Minister of Kerala and leader of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF), hoisted the national flag at Central Stadium without renditions of Vande Mataram, despite central guidelines recommending its full version be sung as part of the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign. Meanwhile, in Thiruvananthapuram Corporation under BJP rule, Vande Mataram was fully sung during celebrations organized by Mayor V.V. Rajesh. At the Kerala Legislative Assembly and State Election Commission (SEC), national anthems were performed without controversy.
