Sukhbir Singh Badal Stabbed at Gurdwara, Attacker Sent to Custody
A high-profile politician was attacked despite Z-plus security, raising concerns about safety and security.
On Thursday, Sukhbir Singh Badal, Shiromani Akali Dal chief and former Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, was attacked with a dagger inside a gurudwara in Nanded, Maharashtra. Despite Z-plus security, he suffered a four-to-five-centimeter wound on his right forearm; a police officer escorting him was also injured. The attacker, Jaspal Singh, 62, who worked as a sevadar at the gurdwara, was sent to police custody until August 24 by the Mudkhed Court in Nanded on Friday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other leaders condemned the attack. Badal vowed his party would not allow "anti-national" forces to destabilize Punjab and India.
