Supreme Court Quashes Criminal Complaint Against Rahul Gandhi
On Friday, the Supreme Court quashed a private criminal complaint against Congress MP Rahul Gandhi pending in Uttar Pradesh for allegedly spreading communal disharmony by defaming right-wing ideologue VD Savarkar. The bench of Justices Dipankar Datta and Sheel Nagu said no sanction was obtained as required. This stems from comments Gandhi made on November 17, 2022, during his Bharat Jodo Yatra in Maharashtra's Akola district. The Lucknow high court had previously allowed Gandhi to file a revision petition before the sessions court.
