Rajasthan Cabinet Approves Uniform Civil Code Bill Mandating Equal Inheritance Rights, Marriage Registration

On August 13, 2026, the Rajasthan Cabinet approved the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) Bill and Trees Protection Bill before the model code of conduct for panchayat elections. The UCC seeks to mandate marriage registration, equal inheritance rights, and prohibit polygamy across religions except Scheduled Tribes. Both Bills will be introduced in the Assembly’s monsoon session starting August 20. Minister Jogaram Patel stated these measures aim to align with constitutional ideals while addressing family-related legal issues.
