Owaisi questions minister on IT rules for content takedowns; safeguards ensure transparency

In response to an unstarred question by Asaduddin Owaisi in the Lok Sabha, the Union Minister of State for Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada said that safeguards under the IT rules ensure transparency and accountability in content takedown actions. The minister highlighted amendments effective November 15, 2025, requiring directions to remove unlawful content only from senior officials and specifying legal reasons for such actions. All takedowns are subject to monthly review by officers at least of Secretary rank. This framework aims to balance citizens' rights with national security concerns.
