
Caste Census starts in Ladakh, uses paper due to border security concerns
The Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India notified that the second phase of the Census, including caste enumeration through an open-ended column, will start in Ladakh and other snow-bound areas from August 17. This digital Census makes exceptions for paper schedules due to security concerns around defense establishments along China and Pakistan borders. The exercise runs until September 30, with self-enumeration available from August 17 to 31.
